Saturday breakfast worth the wait? (besides the Root)

Everybody keeps telling me to go to The Root for the mushroom Benedict and sure, I'll get there. But I've lived downtown long enough to know a Saturday line on South Main in July means standing in 95 degree heat for a table, and I'm not doing that before coffee.

So what else is actually worth it? Hillcrest, the Heights, wherever. I'm fine with a wait if the food earns it, I just don't want to wait 45 minutes for a sad omelet. Community Bakery and Boulevard Bread are my usual go-tos but I'm in a rut.

Bonus points if it can handle a table of sweaty kids after an 8am game, because that's most of my Saturdays until the fall season starts. Nothing fancy, they just need to be fed fast and not get glared at.

What's your spot?

Skip the places with a line and head somewhere with a hot griddle and big tables. With a pack of kids fresh off an 8am game, I'd try Heights Corner Market on Kavanaugh. Last time I was in, the breakfast plate was decent and nobody was waiting on the sidewalk. It's more order-at-the-counter than sit-down, though, so see if that suits the sweaty crowd.

Boulevard Bread is already slammed by 9 or so on a Saturday, so if you go, go early or go late, not in the middle. Same rule for the Root, honestly. I've been eating breakfast around the Heights a long time and the waits mostly come down to when you show up, not who's cooking.
